Somehow its already past the middle of July. Currently I'm listening to the glorious sound of rain! Last night there was a measly 38% chance of rain, so I decided to cut flowers...just in case. And now beautiful rain with an inch predicted! End of June we got hit with some wicked wind, first at our Saturday market and again the next Thursday. We lost a few plants but nothing at all like I expected.
below are some pictures of destruction. We lost one of the fruit trees we planted in the fall. About half the poppy seeds we were growing for Buffalo Seed Company, and a 3-foot-tall Dahlia. Lots got blown over but has continued to grow, all be it crooked.
We have been having wonderful markets, and each week I can see so much improvement in my bouquets! Last weekend we had an all but sell out market and it was amazing! This week my goal is 20 bouquets!
Its the middle of the busy season and yet I have already started the orders for next years seeds, bulbs, and tubers. We have so many new things coming!
This year my focus is on learning what works best for us and starting the perennials to have flowers for years. I have added 7 rose bushes and am happy to say they have all made it thus far and all but one have put on splendid blooms! I started dahlias from seed this year, which has no guarentees of what you will get or even color. But if you find one that suits your needs you can dig up the tubers in the fall and get an exact replica of the plant. This year I have found 5 of the 40 I planted that we will be keeping! I am so excited for the years to come as I can imagine how much we will continue to change and grow!
There is so much more to share and I feel this post is disjointed, but the sun is now shining and the gardens are calling.
